Transcript: You know, when I was in the woods, I wasn't afraid for a bullet at all. We were retreating from the German army. They came and put a ring around us, with airplanes bombarding us, with artillery shooting us. They couldn't go in with tanks, you know? But then we retreated, bullets -- I could hear each bullet. I was in swamps running through it. I could hear, "tsch, tsch, tsch." The bullets, I could hear, were falling in the water right beside me -- and you know, I wasn't afraid at all. I was just like I've been, normal, you know, and I kept on.
A group of us crossed over in the highway where tanks were standing there and we crossed. We could see the German's military -- by the tanks, they were going back and forth to see if anybody goes over. So we were lying in a low spot down there by the highway and we saw him, he goes this way and it was with the back to us. So instead of running straight, we turned around and went backwards, crossing over the highway. So in case they see, can see footprints, they will think we didn't go this way; we ran that way. We went the other way, you know?
