Transcript: We were in an area in the Alps. Now the Alps are really high. the area in which we were was against the French border, and, of course, that's where the Alps were the highest. Now there were forests all over, and there were several valleys. Now there were roads in the valleys, but up the mountains there were no roads. And if you were on top of one mountain, you could look down the mountain and you could see if Germans were coming, or you would even hear them sometimes -- hear them sometimes. And of course, the Germans couldn't come up by car. They couldn't come up by -- by, um -- by a tank or any -- any large vehicle. They had to walk up just like we had to. So we were relatively safe. Even so, the Germans did come up once in a while. The fascist came up every once in a while. They caught a few people. They shot a few people, you know, and -- but then they retreated again.
