Transcript: And we saw the German army retreating through the streets of Demonte, and it was the 8th of May. We had heard that Hitler had shot themselves, that Germany had capitulated. And a few German stragglers still came down on the road and through the mountains, and we arrested them. And they were taken to the police headquarters where I interviewed them. And they were still very pro-German. They were young fellows. We told them we were going to execute them, and they said, yes. You know, I will give my life for the fuhrer. They hadn't really changed their mind. They were still white-washed by the German Nazis, and I really don't know what happened to them, whether they were finally executed or not, but that was on the day of May 8th when the war ended.
